I invited Peter to Join Real Skier II
« on: August 14, 2007, 08:23:54 am »
I had the pleasure of speaking with Peter Keelty yesterday about some new skis. I told him about our get together last season and the upcoming event. He couldn't join us but he thought it was great that we all get together. He officially sanctioned the event! I am going to look into some long sleeve tee-shirts or hats?  Any thoughts?

sorry, I haven't gotten past the part about speaking with Peter Keelty yesterday about some new skis.

I like 3/4 length better than long sleeve.? Baseball hats to be worn apre-ski to hide my helmet hair would be good.
But it needs to be something with humor.? I don't have the cojones to wear a shirt that claims that "I am a Real Skier"
"If you're gonna play the game boy, ya gotta learn to play it right."

THe conversation was more of a discussing my purchases already and my lineup. The reviews on the 78 are suppossedly fantastic. In fact, it very well may be the first, one quiver ski. He aslo like the new Magfire 12 although he hadn't gone through all of the review cards.

3/4 sleeves? Not familiar wit those, is that like a BB shirt?

I was thinking about using the Realskier logo (in blue) with "STEAMBOAT" super imposed over the top in red on an angle.

Yes.? I just didn't know whether anyone else would recognize it by that name.
Almost as warm as a long sleeve but can also be worn in warmer weather or as a layer, sleeves don't get in the way of the wrists, extremely versatile.? I've liked them since my baseball days 40 years ago.

That sounds pretty tasteful.

Jim....don't like the work retraction...but do like extension and rotation.

Still..we're starting to sound like a bunch of dentists!

Michael....no fleece boxers shorts....brings that ole favorite winter holiday song...

"Chestnuts roasting on an open fire"!

Ok Lynn,....it's just too easy to get in trouble with this crowd!

I also like putting the year on the vests and being able to sew on a patch with the next year the member attended.

Best,

Rotation strickly in the context of rotate your wrist to plant your pole, rotate your head to see who's barreling down on ya, and as in rotate the meat on the barbe....

Now find me some fiberglass fill in the scratch wax before I rotate and disassemble!

I think there is a clearcoat of some sort on top of the fiberglass.  maybe clear fingernail polish or polyurethane?

Surface scratches and nicks are fine, maybe you shouldn't ski on the "big-boy" runs if you are concerned about your pretty shiney ski's ........      ;D

Ron you may dress your self as the poster boy for Ski Central....but your lack of concern for the tools that keep your white pants clean make me wonder.

(Music here please: Glory Glory Hallelujah)
The trees, the Kevlar, the fiberglass, the metal and glue that go into making the boards that bring all day smiles to your face,

That composite of shear joy that keep you floating in clouds of puffy snow,

Those wizards of wood that negotiate your white panted butt through the tree runs at 2:30 and 3 O'Clock,

Those fantastical harem of boards you harbor at your posh and appreciated Steamboat resort..sure, THEY sit in a lonely closet out of site and out of mind....

But when the time comes and your bring those conglomeration of science, nature, put together through years of trials and tribulations to culminate in finely tuned tools,

Man, you can't let them look like crap...you owe them man...you owe them! Those dings and scrapes are NOT badges of courage but Scarlet Letters of disrespect!

(Cut song here)

Now...do you now understand why you need to show the love brother? Show the love man!

Leave my white butt out of this!  The pants for SB are the Chill-out Sali's.  http://www.usoutdoorstore.com/outlet/index.cfm?fa=products.showDetail&sku=46179334

Show the love by letting your skis do the job they were meant to. This means let them play, jump, sprint, tumble and get physical! That means rocks (small ones), trees, Skiers from Houston and Dallas are all fair game! This is like keeping my Irish setter out of the water and not letting him run in the fields. Yes, he gets muddy, picks up ticks, burrs and stickers but he has a big ol' grin and his tail is a'waggin' :)

Sure...you want more to follow in you egregious footstops...."buy white pants" he screams from the mountain top...
Lonely out their bud huh.
Well truthfully, you're very easy to find in the camera lens on a dark film day....well if I could keep the camera still.

This year..we're renting helmet-cams...cool.

Ok..take your dog in to tick infested woods, leach infested waters and return home with your 4 legged buddy filthy dirty well except for the bottom of his paws. You see...their just might be some advantage to cleaning the top half.

So there..na na na na na na!

Yep....as soon as I can, I'll check out to Steamboat and see if they have a place they might rent Helm-Cams.

Ok Ron, now, don't over do the shine on your top skins. Don't want to blind the skiers carving next to ya.

Now..I'm off to defeat the nasayers of top skin refinishing on the "E" site!

Oh forget it....let them have ugly skis!

I may let you keep your tops clean and neet but I can't bear to polish them. (Actually, the wax may help to keep the snow from sticking).  Please make sure you do not reference me on EPIC.  :o

No, I see no attraction to "that". Now back to our regular program....

I can understand waxing the tops to keep the snow from sticking so I guess I can't be too hard on Gary. I know that in Beaver Creek, I had a problem with snow sticking on my tops but that was a little different situation ::)

Well Ron..truthfully and so far through my experimentation.... wax may help a wee bit on keep snow to sticking on the top skins but I think mostly it helps keep the tops looking good. Still, trying to find the right product that does both.
For all:
One thing you can do to reduce friction is if you have rough pieces of material where the top skin meets the metal edge, get some emery paper or a sanding block and run it up an down that locatoin to get rid of the top skin burrs that come from the manufacturer or from ski time. It's easier on the hands to carry and provides resistance on those soft and deep snow days.

Real Men Do Worry Ron....we're sensitive and willing to expose our most inner feelings! Oh man yuk...that was really hard to say.

In all the mysteries of the universe, I continue on my quest, undaunted by nay sayers as yourself, forging ahead. My vision of top skin renewal, ( no fore..... jokes please) stands before me.

I battled the squirrels in my backyard the same way until one day I found the perfect feeder that spins the squirrels off like they were on a Merry Go Round.....10years of grease, hot pepper, 110 volt but I achieved my quest.

So go ahead, slander my good name, crush my dignity, I stand alone, (with Jim) in search of the perfect top skin wax.

Your Crusader,

Lynn...you see in addition to my wifes' many smart and wonderful credentials, she is a psycologist. When we first met, she tried to get me to say without neatly catagorizing everthing, what exactly what might be bothering me or just on my mind.
Now...I'm a motor mouth...yep no hesitations.

There is however, the man gene that makes me cringe a bit but being a truely sensitive, all mountain PMTS skier,  BUT>>>I know the value and appreciate all of it....NO DOUBT!
