Salomon Scrambler 8----Looking for a comparible ski
« on: February 21, 2007, 08:13:28 pm »
I am an intermediate skier just started skiing again after a 9 years off and tried out some Salomon Scrambler 8's and really liked these skies. But i cannot find them anywhere to buy being they are 05/06 season.Anyone know what other ski would be close to this one? Just too many skies to demo.Just like to narrow down the options. I like the quick turning ability and have used them in everything but deep powder.

thanks for your input

Following is based purely on reviews.

Scrambler 8.  123-75-110  13.2m radius   sport,leisure skier icons.

Salomons, in general, are the French feel.  Light and lively as opposed to the German/Austrian damp feel (K2's are also damp) so primary focus on Salomon, Dynastar, Rossignol.

In no particular order, just starting the discussion:

Salomon X-Wing Blast 124-75-107
Dynastar Contact 9 or 10.  In this pair the 10 is actually rated lower than the 9.  The 9 is an excellent intermediate ski.
Rossignol Z5 Zenith Oversize (126/74/105)

Other skis for similar skill level (but will have a different feel than what I am guessing was the feel of the Salomon).  Some of the following have a narrower waist, which is actually superior for learning to get better.
Head XRC-800 (119/69/105) or iM72 (117/72/102)
Fischer RX6 (114/68/98)  a popular and therefore hard to find model
K2 Omni 5.5 or Escape 5500 (but not lower numbers, no 4500 or 4.5)
Elan Speedwave 10 (115/69/103)  I don't know this ski.  It appears to be in the right level, but lukewarm review.

thanksfor the input. Iam going to ski in Kimberley B.C. this weekend and am going to demo the im72's and just because i can the XRC 1400's. I have a pair of Dynastar 4800 Legends but preferred the Salomon Scrambler 8's. I will have to track down some of the skies you have mentioned.
Thanks a bunch
