BW, I'll let you lug around the extra weight of a disc brake set up on your road bike. My rim brakes work just fine on my road bike even when I use my carbon wheels and they are wet (which means it is raining hard and I am pissed off about getting caught out in hard rain again  ). Agree about disc brakes on a cyclo-cross bikes where mud often is an issue.
