So, How was the skiing in Austria??
« on: April 23, 2012, 08:36:07 pm »
Hi Todd

Over your jet lag yet?

Please give us a really extensive trip report.
Those of us on the East Coast who are snow deprived (sorry folks, this last, late dump on barren dry ground
when all the slopes are closed DOESN'T count) need to live vicariously.

Puhleeze, Todd, pics too.

Of course, anyone else returning from trips from white winter lands are invited to add to the drooling!
(Svend, Gary?)

Apres in Austria was great!  We skied some too, despite the poor surface.  Having sharp, well-tuned edges was a waste of time since there was a steady downpour of white debris that blocked contact with the underlying ice.  But beggars can't be choosers, as they say, so we took the conditions in stride.

That is painful to hear.
I am so sorry you spent all that time and money, only
to be confronted by all that pesky, fluffy stuff that just
gets in the way of a good ice run!

When you have a chance, if you could "fill in" the gaps
in this report that would be appreciated.

Surely.  Leisurely 5 course meals each evening.  Venison, wild boar, chamonix, etc.  Good beer daily.  Good company daily.

They replaced the chairlift that went from Tuxer Ferner Haus half-way up to the Gefrorene Wand with a gondola and moved the unload point uphill.  This removed the half-width catwalk from hell -- rocks to the left, cliff to the right, and skiers behind.  This will lower the skill level barrier to participation in the future.

Sweet snow.  Some visibility challenges a couple days being so deep into snow-laden clouds.  Also some glorious bluebird runs where you could see forever.

The five essentials are timeless, so you know what everyone focused on (when not in apr?s mode)  I mostly worked on timing with a healthy side portion of counteracting and a few potent sips of fore-aft.

And as always, the last turn of the run as one comes to a stop is subject to intense MA scrutiny ... It had better be your best :)

Todd,

Sounds like you had your priorities in the correct order. ;D

5 essentials are timeless....I like that!
