Longer skis for this racer???
« on: January 16, 2007, 05:36:05 pm »
I am posting this query for the 'posse gear-a-holics' for a fellow ski forum friend. I hope to lure her here eventually.

Stats:
1. Age-mid fifties, started skiing about 3 years ago and picked it up quick. Started racing 2 yrs. ago
2. Ht-5'5"
3. Wt-130
4. skis-volkl gamma supersports, woman specific model, 2 yrs. old. turn radius 12.5, 154 cm long
5. boots Atomic T-9, womans, 2 yrs old

Self described as fast and confident on hard snow. Working on arc to arc on hard snow outside gates: not able to do inside gates well yet, is skidding. Is acommitted to working on technique to improve. Boots have been canted, footbedded, grinded, punched and put to the full range of boot abuse.

Question: would longer skis be better because of the longitudinal flex allowing more of a sweet spot and more of a carve? Should this racer stay with shorter skis?
Of course, no one will hold you down and put Beanos' porcupine quills down your jacket if your answer doesn't work!

Thanks in advance,
Lynn

Hi Lynn,

I would consider a Jr. race GS ski in a 165cm. See: http://www.ski-depot.com/

Cheers,
