Free Skis!!
« on: September 15, 2010, 08:33:33 am »
American Express sent me an email this morning syaing that I could link my Amex Rewards points to Amazon.com and that I could buy anything on Amazon with points. It was easy to link and because I have been a rewards member for a long time and I have rarely bought very much with the rewards, I have a sizeable balance. I was pretty amazed to see ll all the skis I could get for free. Even more amazing is that I decided that I really don't need any and I ordered none. For me that really is progress.

They do have a pair of K2 Hardsides for $481 (free with points) that I could use here in Tahoe as my current pair stays in Montana. But I have had bad luck with buying second pairs of skis. Usually right after I buy them I find something else that I like better and I am stuck with two pairs of skis that I no longer love.

Anyway and more importantly, if you are an Amex rewards member, make sure you liink your account to Amazon and go grab your free skis!!!

that's pretty cool, what does that translate to from a cost of points? I am not an amex customer but from a Visa perspective, i get a point per dollar spent. So can you relate that to points and dollars from an Amex program?  Thanks

It's around the same. Typically they have had a website where you could just order stuff. This is the first I have seen them translate it into $'s.

wow, then that's a killer deal. so does this sound correct:

I go an buy a new Tv for $1,000.00 does that mean I have Approx $1,000.00 in points to buy a pair of kastles from Phil? this sounds too good to be true.  there's got to be a ratio of like 2 or 3%.

No, for each dollar spent you get a point and and you are essentially getting back 1% on your purchases. So if you spend $100,000 over a few years you will have $1000 to spend. Typically something that costs $500 costs 50,000 points. If they gave you a dollar for each dollar spent they would be out of business very quickly!!

Still, over time it adds up and it can mean some free skis.
