Thanks for posting the link.  Although they are still using theso-called Intelligence Technology, it looks as if they are drifting away from the "chip" versions.  Still a few left, but most no longer list the chip version.  Anyone know about this?

I don't know the reason why. Clearly there are less chip skis and they have eliminated the IM 77 chip. One thing that has also occurred is that they are producing more sandwich construction skis, and this is a good thing. I notriced the XRC 1400 chip is now a sandwich ski. It seems that in most of the upper level ski categories there are now at least two skis with race laminate /sandwich construction. Perhaps there is less need for a chip with skis that are akready this stable at speed.

jbotti, that is my belief as well. The performance of the Head laminates is incredible. There is so much power, snap and energy in these skis, its amazing. One thing that recreational or moderate skiers are going to need to be careful of is that many of these skis are going to be too much for them.

I was going to pick up a pair of XRC 800's based on Harald's preferences for a narrower waisted ski for intermediates to learn carving skills.? After my enlightenment with Rich at Dumont in March, I think that is a good recommendation. I see they have fattened up the 800 XRC to 69mm (from 66)? at the waist.? I see they have fattened up the 260 as well.? Is that much change significant?? I wonder if I should be trying to pick up last years model?? I am really committed to learning carving skill and think Harald is right on based on my new understanding of what it takes to tilt a ski on edge.? I ski in the East but hope to get out West for a camp next year.  Appreciate anyone's thoughts.? ????

Hmmm...seems to be some conflicting information here on the !260.  Check out the catalog specs vs. the summary sheet.  I think the summary sheet has  the specs switched for the i260 & i220.  BTW, I have both the i160 and the xrc 800 and prefer the i160.  I'm a lightweight, so prefer the "softer" i160.
Doing a cursory exam, the 800 (04-05 model)  is both heavier and stiffer.  Also, the i260 appears to be the true descendant of the i160 rather than the xrc 800 (per Head catalog specs.) which is contrary to what I've read on other forums.

Fog...

I think you are correct.  I'll bet the 260 is really a 64 waist.    I am a big guy, 6'4" and 215 lb but maybe the 260 would be the best.  I am looking for a season to improve technique more than handle more speed.  Why do you prefer your i160's over the 800's?  Are they easier to get on edge?

I have been looking for 04-05's in the i260's and there doesn't seem to be anything on the net.  Here in Dayton, Ohio I would have to travel to find someone that handles Head.  Any suggestions on a good source for the ii260 or the 800?

Thanks

Magyar,

Go for the newer 05-06 ( or maybe the 06-07) xrc 800.  I think with the metal jacket construction (feels torsionally stiffer) it's more suited to someone your size. Plus better for the reputation of east coast ice.  I like the 800 for the morning hardpack but prefer the ic160 overall.  Both are easy to get on edge so don't worry about making that a factor. Just keep shopping, they'll eventually show up.  Good luck!

Just a thought here. normally, I would have said go with the 800 all the way but you are a big guy. I would strongly recommend demoing first. If you have some decent skills you may ba able to ski a 1100. I am only thinking that the 800 may (repeat) may be too soft for your size.

The link shows the 2007 m77 monster to have dimensions of 119-77-104. I just received a pair yesterday from a warranty claim and they have 120-78-105 written on the top sheet. Haven't actually measured them though.

The dimensions could be slightly changed by the length of the ski. Stated dimensions are usually for a specific length and vary slightly as the ski length changes.
