Watea 78 - 174 vs 181
« on: November 05, 2008, 01:23:44 pm »
I'm thinking of picking up a set of Watea 78's as a replacement for my 182 cm Dynastar Intuitiv 74.  The question is what length?

182 was the second from the top length in the Intuitiv, so it leads me to believe the 174 will be a good choice as it is the second from the top length.  But that length scares me.  I'm bigger (215 lbs and falling) and am a type 7-8 skier.  Should I opt for the 181?  The main reason I'm replacing the Intuitiv 74 is mogul performance and carving.

West. Utah.  Mostly Snowbird, Alta, and Snowbasin.  I ski the whole mountain and spend about 60% of the time off-piste.  I recently picked up a pair of Nordica Blowers for the real deep days, so I'm looking for something that will cover carving on groomers, bumps, crud, and shredded up powder for the other 75% of the days that I ski.

Given that you ski the Wasatch and your skill level, I'd go with the 181...  Just one opinion...

I Agree with Greg, it does ski shorter than it is. My guess is that you will really love the blowers and not just use them for deep days! Anything more than a 6" or so, you will find the blowers a blast. If you arent' use to wider ski, it won't take you long to realize the advantages of them; less work, more float, easier to turn in pow. Just a cool feeling to be on a nice stable platform. Even on small 3-5" drops off rocks and lips are so much smoother and easier.
