"Imagine an FIS-illegal, 15m GS ski on steroids.
Head now makes a total of 5 adult XRC models; this is the most high performance, although naming the non-race-construction Chip version the "1400" has created some confusion. The 1200 (formerly, the 1100 RD, just to add more confusion) is a no-holds-barred, no-compromise, no-nonsense, no-slack power-carving machine. Top-tier technical skiers addicted to race GS skis for mach-schnell groomer arcing are the skiers most likely to appreciate competition-level cross skis, of which the 1200 is a superb example.
Key performance components include laminate race construction, 20mm carving plate and vertical sidewalls, which distinguish the 1200 from other, cap-construction XRC's.
The effect of vertical sidewalls deserves clarification, as this is the feature that most noticeably separates laminate race skis from caps. Simply put, vertical sidewalls deliver more power more quickly and more directly to edges than do angled sidewalls on cap skis, which tend to "smear" the application of edge power slightly. While not a seemingly important distinction, vertical sidewalls demand precision, accuracy, subtle edge and pressure control and perfect timing. Angled sidewalls are more forgiving.
Even more important, vertical sidewalls do not like to move laterally across the snow. They will grab, bite and chatter if forced into a skid and are thus less forgiving than caps when subjected to steering-based technique."
Sounds like a Head version of the Fischer WC RC?
