The leaves here are past peak, the birds are headed south and I had to make three trips from my truck into the ski shop today carrying stuff to be mounted... >:D

It still feels like summer here, 80 degrees and sunny (in the SF bay area), but they got their first snow out at my home in Montana!!! There is more snow expected along with an extended cold front. We also had our first pacific storm in the bay area this past weekend. It was too warm for any meanigful snow in Tahoe, but whenever it starts raining here, it means winter is on its way.

Ron is buying and selling skis.? ( ;D? ;D? I think that's a sign of winter? ??? ??? ??? )

Nights here in the DC area have gotten cool, down into the 30/40's.? At least feels like fall.

The "Snow Birds" have started their annual migration down the Cheasapeake Bay.  Local joke, but Snow Birds are the people with live-aboard (or just big) sailboats that migrate south each winter (I guess the sailing in New England during the winter is a challenge).

When I go into the mounting shop, I use an alias, when the guy fills out the ticket, I tell him my name is Ron C.

See ya in the Boat buddy...

Awesome.

The weatherman last night sort of implied that Utah was going to get some high elevation snow as well.

What kind of waist width do you need in order to surf on 10" of new snow?   ??? ???

I live north of SLC.  I hike most mornings before work and this morning I was trudging through a few inches of snow and temps were in the low 30's.  I don't know if snowmaking is possible yet, but a late October opening someplace would be killer.  (My Birthday is late in October and sometimes Mother Nature gives me a little present like that!)

I drove up to Tahoe today. There were snow caps on the highest peaks and Boreal (a little hill that can be seen from the highway) had been making snow at night. That's early for Tahoe.

Montana got 25 inches over the weekend!!!

Home!  Its a good sign, not that you can read too much into it but there has been a consistent pattern of moisture funnelling into Steamboat and the wyoming areas. Keep the fingers crossed. We may be able to avoid sacrificing gary afterall..... >:D

it better! 10-15 degrees above normal for the past 2-3 weeks here. My guess however is this is really the new norm.

I've kicked around making a mini snow gun this year. I mean, I already have an air compressor for my air tools.

In general, I'm completely whacked out on skiing. The town next to me has their "bulk trash" pickup. I slammed on the brakes this AM and did the tightest U turn you've ever seen a Grand Cherokee do. I snagged 3 pairs of old skis someone was tossing out. I've been looking for freebies to mount on the side of our shed. Two weeks ago, I was scouring the Vermont craigslist for old chairlifts. I found someone in Dover VT who had a few old chairs from Mt. Snow. I was ready to hook up the trailer and head north. Hey, for $25.... But they had already been sold according to an e-mail from the seller. Plus, my wife wasn't too keen on that idea. "What exactly are you going to do with it?" "Well...uhhhh, I'll hang it somewhere...or fab up some legs and make bench out of it...it doesn't matter...it's just cool to have." Her response: " ::)"

Or - you could fix up one of those zip lines, but hook up the chair, OR, just suspend it in your back yard for the enhanced ski karma. :o

If cabin fever is what people get when the are cooped up inside all winter, what do we have?

There's a really small double chair at the base of Carinthia. We've biked by it a few up at Mt. Snow. Each time I think... "Ya know...I bet I could take 4 towers and set that beast up in the backyard....."  :D
