New Gear (any kind) Fix is a good thing
« on: May 20, 2008, 07:56:08 am »
As I was pulling into my driveway, I saw a small box by the door. I looked at the label it was from "ski universe", ahha, I got the mail and Finn and I went into the house, I carefully cut the tape on the box and opened the box. A brand spankin' new pair of Tyrolia Wide brakes were waiting inside for me!? It's the little things that get you through the summer......

The Wide brake design is really cool. I couldnt get any at the end of the season for my Shamans and I just bent the others brakes out. This works but there are two problems:
1- when deployed, (down) they rub the sides of the skis (this would cause Gary to have a seizure)
2-when you are clicked into the bindings, when the arms are retracted, the arms extend over the sides of the ski. This isn't too good if you are skiing in a brsuhy area or in trees where they could grab onto something.

This design is very clever, When they are up (clicked in) they actually pull in so the brakes don't extend beyond the width of the ski. When they deploy, they flail out like a wing and don't rub on the side of the ski. Its an easy job but gives me an excuse to work on the boards, You just unscrew the two screws on the heel piece and unplug the old brake; its not just the metal part, it's the piece that you step down on that's on a spring. You then just plug the new peice in and replace the screws.

Me: ski wax 25-35 degree range and -5 to -25 degree

All the rest of my gear is rippn' ready to go~!    ;D

What are the rest of you planning between now and ski season?

Thanks, The ones i want are the Army expedition gloves or something like that. They are leather and fabric with a gussett. (thing that goes over wrist and jacket. If you see them for at least 1/2 off, i am a size 10. Grab me a pair as long as they aren't some funky color but black, brown is fine. I will post link'

My new gear needs for the coming winter:

-- Head SS Speeds...got 'em! That's the biggie...
-- new poles -- old ones are cheap learners, got bent and re-straightened at least five times, so now they're wavy at the bottom; missing a basket too
-- goggles for flat light and night skiing -- anyone have recommendations for the right lenses?
-- road tar and sand to coat the bases of my wife's SS Speeds -- gotta slow her down somehow  :-[

And that's about it...we have all the rest, except that at least one of our daughters will need new skis and boots...and she wants Supershapes just like Mom and Dad! No girlie skis for her, no sir.  At 10 years old, she's goin' sporty all the way! Gotta love it!

Low light/flat light- Smith Sensor Mirrors are my absolute favorites. SAC has them often for 35-40 a pair!  Stock up when you can.

Sorry, but being Canadian, I'm not familiar with SAC.  Can you point me in their direction?

Svend...check out the Smith Goggle line...Their gear really holds up well, no fogging problems and the  fit with or without helmet is right on.

Oh yeah....for your wife....when she's not looking...get some velcro strips adhered to her bottoms.... :-[ ski bottoms!  ;D
