What you pack in?
« on: November 20, 2006, 08:28:46 pm »
My last response to a post made me think.....so what do you all carry around in pockets in your ski jacket and ski pant pockets, or any other pocket on you?

M y stuffings:
mountain map
gator
full head/face mask
granola bar
box of raisins
powder straps
asprin, advil, aleve
credit card and cashola
goggle wipe cloth
ski cable lock
hydration pack
chap stick
sun screen stick
pocket watch
small swiss army knife
1 hand warmer packet
2 way radio if skiing with others

Well there ya go....I thiink that covers it.

SO..."what's in your wallet?"

Gary

Most everything stays in the Camelback backpack so I don't have to remember as much.

Camelback backpack with bladder.
Facemask
Smartwool helmet beanie
Extra batteries for Turbocam goggle and radio.
cell phone
radio if skiing with people that don't have cell coverage
mp3 player (with speakers in fuse helmet)
gummi stone
may still have a ptex candle, but took out the scraper
Ink pen
Extra layer shirt
Alternate goggles if change of cloud cover is expected.
chapstick
sunblock
nail clippers (amazing the number of times I've needed them)
trail map (plus spare if skiing with my 'prone to lose his' son)
wallet
goggle wipe
zip off hood (stores in back pocket of jacket)
cat trax
cable lock
mini screwdriver
baseball cap (usually)
2 velcro straps for tip and tail -- to use so skis don't scissor when carrying
ski pole straps (I use the Leki trigger poles and wear the glove like attachment, but carry the normal straps as well)
snickers or M&M peanuts (or some combination of chocolate and peanuts)

WOW -- I had never listed it before.? I need to eliminate some stuff.? I wonder if there's more in my back pack that I don't even remember putting there.

Interesting post and when I first read garys list, I was thinking how much drap he carries, then it occured to me I carry just as much crap. I was actually thinking about getting another ski jacket due to getting good use of space for all the crap I carry, This just made me more aware of just how much stuff I carry. My race quilted jacket only has two hand pockets and a small chest pocket. Thinking about that now, its not a good one for BC. I don't like all the stuff I carry jammed into 2 pockets, I think I have just talked myself into a new jacket.  Thanks Gary!

Ok Jim, if ya got room for a stick of pepperoni and some provolone...it would be a full fledged picnic..

One can never be too ready...it's just those extra ski pole straps that's got me confused????!!!!!

or as Ron might say...Assessorize!

We all will know who we want to ride up the chair lift with once we identify the goodies are ski buddies are carrying!

Ok Lynn, a mans ski jacket is their holy temple where if we need to make sacrifices to whatever snow gods, ski buddies and or family members hanging with us that day, we can come to the rescue. For sure, we can stay out on the hill longer than the lifts are running. We may weigh 10 lbs more, but we got our stash with us..yeah!

Not sure if Ron has added a purse to his ensemble...but hey it is 2006!......( oh yeah, ask Ron about his new jacket for the trip)

Best,
Gary

I guess the real question is does the new jacket match the orange or brown ski pants? :D

:)? :) Poles don't hang from ski racks very well if they don't have straps, so I unclip the poles from the Leki glove things (don't know what they are actually called) and clip on the normal straps.? (plus, I interlace the straps so that you can't separate the poles).? Plus, I have the straps available if necessary.? However, I have very little in pockets, it all just stays in the Camelback Backpack.

See, there's a little bit of logic (even if the emphasis is on the Little Bit).

This, from a man who wears his wifes silk underwear?????????????

Ok, since gary brought it up, yes, I boufght a new jacket yesterday. Now before you laugh or roll yor eyes, I use my jackets every day in the fall and winter walking with my dog and playing around in the woods. So, yes, I actually needed a replacement for one of my jackets and it will double for skiing. OK, so hows this for a deal? I helped sell a ton of gear this fall for my friend who owns a store that sells arc' teryx. She sold me a Arc' Scorpion soft shell ; retail of $550, for $300, I had a store credit of $150, so how could I say no?  Lynn, it's a brick red color so it will match the brown, black and possibly the orange pants.

Happy thanksgiving!

Gary, you have waaaayyy too much free time!  Thanks for the laughs!

OK,OK, I actually have 4 ski jackets now, (I am giving away one and the new Arc' is also my dog walking/hiking jacket) and I have 4 pair of pants. yes, its probably more than I need but on the other hand, I only have two pairs of skis. :) Since I suck at skiing, it helps me  deal emotionally with my innadequacies!

Gary:? I'm not sure whether it's good or bad, but 'you be a little bit twisted, man'.? Thanks for the laughs.

Ron:? ;D? Thank you soooo much.? ?;D? I also suck at skiing and was feeling quite inadequate (especially when listening to Michael).? I realize now that I had been coping all wrong, and that 's the reason that it's been unsuccessful.? Quite simply, I got it backwards.? I have 4 pair of skis and only 2 pair of pants.? How moronic of me not to understand that it was the CLOTHES that made the skier and not the SKIS (and certainly not the skier).?

Anybody interested in 188cm K2 Axis X or 177cm Head iC160's??

And Ron, what would you recommend for my third pair of pants.? Both of my current pair are plain black (Marker insulated, Mountain Hardwear shell).? My jacket (my only jacket, damn) is a deep red (best I can describe it).? Is this like boots vs. skis, are jackets a better psychological investment than pants?

Gary, feel free to jump in here with your recommendations.? I am continually amazed at how much attention you pay to Ron's wardrobe.? I'm not sure I want you knowing that much about what I wear, but you certainly sound like a knowledgeable consultant in this realm.? do you work in the ski fashion industry? ?:)

Midwif:? On behalf of both Ron and I, thanks, I think, for your encouragement in all of the ski dollar distribution.? I take it from your voice of approval that you believe we are getting more in touch with our "feminine side"?

Hmmmm. .....who has too much time on their hands???

Sure clothes make the man or woman....but they don't do much for lift, tip, counter....etc..
still looking good in the lift line is cool!

Ya gotta FEEL good in your gear...ain't no dobut about that!

Hey Jim, I'll bet if you post those skis on ebay or at the mountain where you ski, you'll sell those skis.
Heck, maybe someone here might..why don't you start a thread titled: "Clothes Diva selling K2 & Head?" Ok leave out the CLothes Diva part.....

Me working in the ski fashion industry..well no....but Ron on the other hand dabbles...that boy has connections. Yep, knows every ski clothing web site out there too.

Jim, if your pants are both waterproof, warm, breathable, and can be vented in warm weather....you're all set. The only reason I think to have another pair is if you were looking for something light weight, waterproof and breathable for warmer weather days.

But hey, buying gear is a great stress relief...well it's one of them!

Best,
Gary
