Ron, Gary, Michael, Midwif:

It seems like every year there is an initial "big storm" that announces that winter is here, and then there is a lull before the regular snows start.  Sometimes it comes before Thanksgiving, sometimes after, but it is sure looking like you guys(/gals) are going to hit some great snow.

OK, so your enthusiasm finally caught.  I just booked a flight to Utah first week in December.  I skied "the Beav" as SCSA/Heyoka calls it last year for the first time and understand why Ron likes skiing there even though I still prefer the back bowls of Vail.  But I've been stuck in Colorado the last three years and decided I was skiing Utah on all trips this year.

Jim,

Nothing is better than some great pre-Christmas skiing. I'm in SLC from the 6th to the 8th. What are your plans?

For the past few years I attended the Hyatt's Technique week. It's a great "school". The same guys come back year to year. We focus on whatever the group wants (4-5 of us) and ski at BC and Vail. I have learned a lot there from some of the top instructors around.

The storm looks good I hope its a real dump for BC. I think they might get a foot or so. Even without that, they are positioned very well for the December 11-15 first annual Realskier convention. SLC looks like it will be getting much more!

Plenty of demo shops all within walking distance.

Jim....nononononono nononononon..no, man!

You can't...what good are the 3 musketeers without the 4th?

I mean come on..your going out west when we're out west...Ok... so we're there the 2nd week...

but Jim...it's us.....

Change your plans .....

Ok, we'll understand and even forgive you but this has got to be an annual trek.....

The musketeers must fight poor ski attire and less than perfect ski skills together...one for all and all for one thingy!

Glad to hear you'll be in the west skiing. Actually you'll be out there before us.

Good snow to you and we'll miss you unless you decide to CHANGE YOUR FREAKN' PLANS AND JOIN US!

Best,
Gary

Micheal:? I'm there the 6th thru the 9th.? Are you skiing or working before going to Colorado?? I know you have some good friends there, but would love to tag along one day if you can.? But you have to be willing to ski at about 74% so I can keep up.? I'm a level 7 or so (green icon in Peter's icons) and ski blues and a few blacks.? And, like midwif said, I sometimes wind up on my bum.? Planning on staying at the "historic Ben Lomond" hotel in downtown Ogden, but will have a contingency in Sandy in case it is too historic. 1 day each from 4 of the following:

Snow Basin.? a favorite, and I really like Strawberry bowl (2500 feet of continuos vertical)
Powder Mountain.? at least one day, it doesn't feel like being at a ski resort.? The feel may change this year because they are putting in a high-speed quad in the Hidden Lake area, so it may be changing (just as Alta did about 5 years ago).
Deer Valley.? A sight seeing day, since I'm not in shape.? You can cruise around there all day and OOOOH and AAAAH at the houses.
Solitude.? Haven't skied there before.? Didn't like Brighton, but wanted to see what Solitude was like.
Alta.? I like the ambience/atmosphere of Alta.

Alternate for low snow.? Park City, since I think they cover more trails with man-made if necessary.

Hi Jim,

It would be great to ski with you on Thursday the 8Th. I'm planning to ski both Snowbird & Alta with my daughter that day. I need to be at Superior Sports at 8 AM (third Level of the Snowbird plaza, near the tram) to pick up my gear.

I'm not sure my local friends are available due to work requirements. I'm not planning on burning up the slopes either. This will be my first day of the season, so a little caution is in order. My Daughter is a very good skier and a well recognized athlete, but this will be her first western ski experience. All-in-all, a good situation to just enjoy the mountain  ;).

I was considering contacting Peter to see if he is available, what do you think?

I'll PM you with contact info and itinerary info.

Cheers,

Michael

That sounds good Michael.  Be interesting to see the new tunnel at Snowbird.

Well I guess conditions in Utah are a little thin.

I packed for every contingency: 3 pair of skis, clothing for sub-zero to forty degrees.

I didn't think of the mountain bike.

Well a bad day in Little Cottonwood Canyon is better than a good day anywhere else. I learned to ski in Michigan and skied everyday as a high school competitor in New Hampshire; a little ice & thin cover isn't going to bother me!

And Colorado is looking very good. Unlike the boys at TGR; we don't need deep snow to rip it.

Forecast this AM on the BC site is interesting. If you look on the forecast under snow conditions it shows no snow, but if you click on the custom forecast link below that, they are showing snow Sat-Wednesday... I hope that one is right! Just not too much snow on Monday until we get up from DIA. I don't like rt 70 with snow.

Thanks, the more the merrier, we are not arriving in Colorado (Keystone) until 07 Jan 07 due to work and removal etc etc and feel like I am missing out. The more snow the better the base, may it keep on going.
