mounting railflex 2 FX12 bindings on Fischer RX 8 Fire
« on: March 14, 2008, 04:29:45 am »
Hi, Does anyone know about mounting the Railflex (Tyrolia) bindings on the Fires?  Do they have mounting holes?? I had them delivered to other than my home and was wondering if it required professional mounting or if I could mount them and just have them adjusted.

Thanks,
brad

You can do them yourself if you are a little bit mechanical.? Ask questions once you can see them.? Pretty sure they are very much like the Head Railflex, and it is pretty much slide them on the rail and tighten one screw in the middle.? Course, there is setting the boot sole length and the DIN and checking forward pressure, but none of those are particularly difficult.

On the other hand, probably only $20 to have them mounted and the shop should be able to do it while you wait (it's that simple, a 10 minute operation).

I would explain more fully, but the lemon and dash of salt rubbed into that earlier open wound is making it very difficult to concentrate.

Hi Jim,

Thanks! ;D? My brother just emailed me .pdf pics of the instructions that came with the bindings. Ain't technology grand?? So I will be able to read up on them before getting there.? And there are already screw mounts on the skiis.? I've mounted my own bindings before (successfully, thank you very much) 8) so I should be able to handle it.? I have my boot length so hopefully there will be some mention on how to adjust for that.? I'm thinking a din of 8 to start with.? I also plan to mount them slightly forward. ???

That being said, yes, I'll probablly take them to be professionally adjusted. ::)

As for the lemon and salt, I said I would but you might enjoy it.? And now, definitely not if you're going to whine about it.? Sheesh, you try to do someone a favor....  ;)>:D

Skis should already have the rail mounted on to the ski?  Then all you do is clip the bindings to the carrier bar and slide the carrier onto the rail.  No tools required except a dime ( or a flat head scredriver) to tighten the center screw.

DIN rules haven't changed, even since YOU were a kid, so whatever your old bindings were set to would be OK.  Actually, flex systems like this can get by with a lower DIN setting because the forward pressure doesn't increase and decrease as the ski flexes.  I'm 5'11", age 59, 195 pounds and a level 6 skier and never have pre-release problems with a DIN of 6.5  (boot sole length is 315 which is the other factor in DIN values).

Ok, since you have removed the threat of lemon and salt, feel free to ask questions after you read the manual.

In a perfect world.? However, in this world, the skis came with the bindings mounted on just one ski he tells me.

? I'll have to read up on that.

? I'll have to check up on that too.? I was tired of popping out on FIS moguls and had my Solomon 555's set on 5, which was as high as they went.

Funny, my Tilapia didn't complain about the lemon and salt at all.? Perhaps you are higher up on the phylum than midwif suggested. ;D

Brad:

Some reading for you.? The only thing I don't agree with (or at least don't do) is reduce the DIN setting for age.

This has all of the bindings in it, but you can find the Railflex stuff down towards the bottom.

Wow.? Jim, that is some good stuff.? I ran through the din setting guide and it had me at 8.5 so I think 8 is good.? I concur about reducing the din for age since aggressive is aggressive.? I'm actually stronger now than I was 20 years ago since I took up running 15 years ago.?

I can't thank you enough for the Tyrolia Technical manual.? I looked for something like that and couldn't find it.? I'll have to ask my brother if the rails (base) is already on the ski.? I suspect not since he mentioned three holes on the one without the binding mounted.

Uh=oh.  Three holes in one makes it sound like someone flat mounted (or at least started to) bindings on the ski.  Beginning to sound more like shop job to fill the holes and then mount the rails.  Strongly encourage you to stay with the Railflex and not flat mount the bindings.  Gives you a lot more options for playing with balance and also makes it easier for the next person (or your next set of boots) in case the sole length is different.

Just spoke with brother.  He has them mounted.  They did have the rails on and he just popped the bindings on.  Except now I need to call the company.  They were shipped loose!  no wrap, not even connected together.
