Nah, you got a better offer than what I have, go for it.

Yes, I hope this season on the forum  is filled with conversation, passion and fun, but not the rancor that ensued.
We all participated in hot headed responses and no one is without fault. Including me.

Some posters may not return, but new posters may join.

At the end of last season, I felt that  I had enough of all forums and the attendant lack of civility generally prevalent.
Or the lack of freedom of topic.

It seems that PMTS is just too combustible a subject for anywhere but it's own site.


I look  forward to the last months of biking, the first days of skiing. I hope to take a lesson or two this winter and improve.
Hell, I might even be in the market for a big fat off piste ski for me!
(the beautiful wood skilogiks were not for me, too stiff).

Looking forward to ski 13/14.

Hey Liam,

I really like the concept of 650B.  Makes perfect sense to me, especially for smaller riders.  I often see small guys and women riding and racing 29ers, and it looks ridiculously awkward and disproportionate.

I am sure that for their next bikes, my wife and daughter (5'7" and 5'6", respectively) would really benefit from a larger wheel size.  They are on 26" hardtails presently.  OTOH, they are able to navigate almost all the gnarly terrain that I can on my 29er, and in tight twisty singletrack the agility of the smaller bikes is noticeable -- they leave me WAY behind.  Bottom line -- the 26" wheels are working great for them in our terrain, so there is no rush to go 650B.  But when the bikes need replacing, the slightly bigger wheels would be brilliant -- same agility as a 26er, and a bit more roll-over ability like a 29er.

As for Norco, they make great bikes.  Solid, great build quality, good component specs for the price, and the geometry is dialed.  We have two in our stable -- an EXC2 model 26" hardtail, and a Faze 1 full suspension 26er.  Both are outstanding bikes. 

I have read excellent things about the Norco Sight and Range models too.  Dirtrag magazine rated one of them (Sight, I think?) as THE best bike they had ever tested in the history of their publication.  Quite the accolade.  Nice to see that they are well respected south of the border too.

I have been toying with the idea of buying a road bike for about the past year, and the more I hear about vehicles taking out cyclists, the more I balk at the idea.  To add to the hesitation, the country roads around here, although pastoral and beautiful, have no shoulders, and have short steep little hills that would completely hide a cyclist from an oncoming car.  And people here speed...most go 20 to 30 km/hr over the limit.  Not a good recipe for staying alive.  On the plus side, there are hundreds of kilometers of rail trails around here that go through the same countryside as the roads do, and if we want an open-country ride, our hardtail mountain bikes serve us perfectly well there.

FWIW, my wife and I have been riding mtn. bikes on singletrack since 1989, and can count the total number of falls on one hand.  Worst is a bruise and a scrape, some paint nicked off the frame....accompanie d by a laugh or a curse...and then we ride on.  No ambulance required.

Count me in for the new season.  Last season's quarrels are a distant memory, and I'm looking forward to a fresh start for a new season ... including a new hosting platform!

That sounds good at first.... But as I tally up all the boots, skis, trips to the Alps, and new bicycles I'd be buying everyone, I'm having second thoughts.  I'm ashamed to admit it, but I'm not that good a man.

To be clear, my moral weaknesses shouldn't prevent others from treating me properly.  Who's picking up the tab for my new pair of Raptor B2s?  An admirer has already paid for my 3 season passes, so there's no need to pick up that expense.  I do, however, still have available an opportunity for a noble soul to sponsor the cost of my spring skiing trip to Hintertux, Austria.  Opportunities are limited, so don't delay.

A quick calculation based on the chair 1 weather station at your home mountain shows that the wetbulb temp is 24.6* and rapidly falling.  Guns may be roaring tonight.  The summer heat is breaking and it's time for you to come out of hibernation and help us get started on an even keel for the season.  I'll be out your way at least twice this season.  Would love to make a few turns with you again.

I echo your sentiments about last years forum interactions going where no one needed to go.  I had heard of the religious fervor that accompanied discussions of ski technique, but I had never really experienced it first hand.  Like High Angles, I enjoyed hearing the different points of view.  I wasn't looking to be "converted" to either religion, I just enjoyed the interaction.

I haven't paid much attention to the forum performance this summer (other than to be amazed at how poor it has been) since I've have had lots of other concerns that were of greater importance.  I will check into moving the forum to a site where performance isn't an issue, but should be able to make that invisible to users.

However, I don't plan on being the judge while the factions argue about where EpicSki did this or didn't do that.  I don't see how that contributes anything to any forum at this point.  If we have to argue, let's pick some other inane topic like whether the earth actually revolves around the sun or not.

I thought Liam's kick off topics last year were excellent and quite well organized.  Perhaps someone has similar ideas.

Emotionally, I feel like I've turned a corner of some sort.  I'm just going to ski the skis that I have and not get "impassioned" about the latest and greatest ski gear.  ---  Of course I've heard JBotti say that in the past and then he gets the fever and buys a pair (or talks me into buying a pair) of skis a month later.

A common malady for we skiers this time of year. My Head Rev 85's will spend this winter in the Pacific northwest, so a hole exists in my quiver...again.

couple of reasons..1. The shop I am affiliated with moves a lot of K2's and 2. The New Rictor line (2014) had a nice buzz, and with everybody and their brother talking about the Brahma, I thought going with a brand that has lost some luster with the cool kids has some appeal.  Also, I liked the reviews I read on RS.  And I skied the rictor last year (and the impact) and thought they were great no-nonense skis.

My other plan is to get the Ski Logik Occams Razor, again, I have skied them, they are great (for what they are) and they're not the sort of ski people salivate over anymore. The razor with the Shaman (in similar lengths) how's that for a focused east coast quiver?

I would also like to try or get more info on the new icelantic SKNY line...the Shaman SKNY could be a really great ski (I love the regular Shaman).  But maybe much of the magic gets lost with the narrower ski...it's a hard one to track down..  Maybe run it with my Howitzer...

I've never been a paid member of the Real Skiers site for ski reviews. A post on Epic pointed out the Real Skiers site has been redone for this year and that Jackson Hogan is participating or partnering with Peter Kelty. I think if you are internet ski site savey there is a ton of information about new skis, and, in the end, you just have to get on a ski yourself. I believe I met Jackson at the Epic Tahoe gathering, he's a very entertaining gentleman.

With respect to the K2 richtor 82, I have no experience. I recently had a conversation with Philpug about K2 skis and expressed my opinion that he did not seem to be a fan of that line. To my surprise, he was very positive about his recent demo experiences with K2 and found them to be very nice to ski. He stated that K2 wanted their nitch to be known for skis that were a pleasure to ski by the public. That says nothing about the ski you are considering.

Just curious, but how did you choose that ski? Correctly or incorrectly, I think that patrollers think about their skis a little different than the skiing public, in that, a pair has to work for a patroller doing sled work, or, in all sorts of conditions, including the somewhat controlled manner the public observes when watching you and your peers.
