Title: Old timers
Post by: bf_hill on January 29, 2008, 07:40:58 am
My first pair of boots at age 5 were lace up.  What a chore that was.  Fingers red and raw from trying to get them tighter.  The skiis were....red.  The bindings were cable bindings.  A big improvement my dad said over the beartraps.  I still broke my leg in 5th grade though, still in the cable bindings.

In High School, I had a pair of Kaufman ankle high boots that had a metal stiffening plate on the outside of the boot.  JetSticks had just come out.  You could clamp a pair on the back of your boots to make them high backs.  I got a sheet of plastic, cut it to fit and placed it between the shell and the innerboot with foam taped on top to pad my calfs.  I skied on my tails for weeks before standing upright again.  Too much fun.

Well then, old timer, you absolutely need to get a pair of modern, well fitted boots before you even consider replacing those 1980 skis.  Those rear entry things you are probably skiing now just don't give you the support you need to edge parabolic (now called shaped) skis.   :D  :D  ;D

BTW, I'm 59, but I didn't learn to ski until MUCH later than you.

Boots you say...gottem.  3 yrs old.  Well fitting, minimum 1st run syndrome, excellent control.  No Lange bang at end of day.  I think they're Raichle.
