Title: Monster owners, where do you install your bindings on your 88's?
Post by: Barrettscv on October 14, 2006, 07:05:11 pm
Hello everyone,

Next week I'll have my 175cm Head Monsters i.M 88 mounted with Mojo 15 bindings, should I use the indicated installation point?

I generally like a more forward mounting point, about 8mm.

I plan on using the Monsters on days where crud is common, some deeper powder can be found and I want to be able to the enjoy packed powder too. I'm a 215 Lbs all-mountain skier and will use the ski in Colorado & Utah.

Monster owners, where do you install your bindings on your 88's?

Cheers,

Michael

Hey Michael, just saw this post.

You know, I have always felt the same way about bindings. I used to have all my binding mounted 1/2" forward of the standard setting cause that's where centered felt for me....until the magnificent adjustable bindings.

I was in the exact same state of perplexity when I purchase the 82's...should I mount them forward or not.

I know that when I skied my 77's, they performed best in the center position for me where my RX8's work the best forward.

So, I trusted the since the 77's worked well in the center position, logic would follow that the 82's mounted in their standard position should be just fine.

Did an interesting experiment when I brought the newly mounted skis home. I placed them next to my RX8's which were in the forward position. The 82's were 172 and the RX8's were 170's. Taking that into consideration when laying them on the floor side by side, low and behold, the 82's were almost on the very same mounting position as the RX8's.

So at least for the 82's, they appear to be more forward than I would have anticpated in their standard mounting position. This I'm sure will be an optimal position for me on that ski.

Maybe what you can do is to take a pair of your hard charging groomer skis and see how they would compare to the mounting position of the 88's.

Don't know if any of that helps but it's the kind of wacky logic I used.

Best,
Gary

Hi Gary,

Great idea!

I just got my 88's yesterday. I'll compare the position to the RX8 & WC RC. It will be easy enough, their all 175cm in length.

I do think that the 88's can be set a little back to improve float & stability. It's all a matter of making the right compromise.

Cheers,

Michael

Hey Michael..thrilled you got the 88's...that was my other choice ski.

Let me know how they compare....those have to be a must to bring to Beaver Creek!

I'm not really a betting man, but I will bet that Michael does not own IM 88's by the time he gets to Beaver Creek. The only question is what will he trade into. I do enjoy watching him operate!!

I have been surprised by some of the early season deals I have seen on the IM 82's. I think I saw level Nine Sports selling them for $649 with last years bindings. That's a very good price for October on this years ski. My guess is that there may be some really good deals on the IM 82 by season's end. JB.

JB,
He does say he just got them.....so the real question is does he bring those or the "Spats" to the Creek.

Yep, Michael is a baker and a shaker in the deal world of skis.

You're right up their JB in finding the deal department. I was fortunate on my 82's cause this great "50% of what I paid on my previous ski is subtacted from the last purchased skis or boots".
So? traded in my 77's and a pair of Lange boots I had as back ups and the 82's cost me $250...yahooo!

I hope to keep those for years to come.....but we will see!

Best,
Gary

OK JB,

Yes, I'm concerned that the 175cm is a little short for me. I demoed these at Alta but no truly deep snow could be found. The 175 is very stable at NASTAR speeds and easy to use in boot-top crud. Its just not going to be very stable in deeper snow...

The only other models that interest me are the AC4 in a 184cm or a MOJO 90 in a 193cm. I also found a lightly used Atua and another lightly used ski, this one is the Legend Pro...

OK, I have 6 week to mount bindings in time for BC.

Cheers,

Michael
