RX Fire
« on: September 07, 2006, 11:15:13 am »
I just read some commentary on Epic where they were talking about the RX line. This is the first that I have heard about the RX Fire. This looks to me like Fischer's response to the Head Super Shapes. Hence, a slalom type carver with fatter tips and tails, sandwich construction and a tight truning radius (12m in 165cm). I'm already sold and the last thing I need is another pair of slalom carvers.
What is expescially interesting is that on the real skiers Fischer PDF of this years product, the RX Fire is missing. As well, if you go to the ski-depot website (www.ski-depot.com), they also do not have the RXFire. Hopefully, Peter will have reviewed this and we will get to see his thoughts soon. It does look like a really nice ski. JB.

Last season searched/demoed and finally bought new skis. My "finalists" were Rx8 and iM72 both 170 cm. Both skis are great and i had a tough time deciding. Since i mostly ski in California and occasinally in Utah i decided on the iM72, but somehow i feel that the Rx8 is also still in my future. Anybody skiing in the East should run very fast and buy the Rx8. Totally agree with Peter's evaluation of the Rx8 and it looks like the 06/07 model is even better than the 05/06 model.

I was waiting for Fischer reviews because of RX Fire. The reviews are posted, but no mention of RX Fire

I believe that the sepcs are 123-66-102. If you go to the Fischer website www.fischerskis.com you can see them. The turn radius is 12 meters in a 165cm length. It's a SW construction ski. It looks awesome. JB.

That's one of few Fischer models with Flowflex plate. It's also much more expensive than RX8. Available on German eBay for a while: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290025553190

The RX Fire has a history ::).

The first Fischer Worldcup SC had a 123-66-102mm side cut and laminate construction in 2002/2003 & 2003/2004. Below is Peters review;

"WORLDCUP SC? Rec SL? ? This is the fun one! The SC has much of the lively performance of the SL, but is far more user friendly, easier to relax on, capable of greater stability in big arcs at speeds less than 40mph. A great tool for high intermediate to expert fall line fanatics.
C-5,SK-3,R-4,ST-4,Q-4,T-3,W-4,D-4
 123/66/102 150,155,160,165,170,175"

The ski was revised with a 118-66-99mm side cut in 2004/2005 and is continued unchanged.

Is the RX Fire the same ski as the first Worldcup SC with a new plate installed? The Dims and construction are the same.

Michael, I never skied on the old Worldcup SC, only last years version (whcih I thought was an excellent ski). Perhaps this is the same ski which thanks to you I now know was a wonderful ski.

It will be fun to demo a pair of these this year. Perhaps the popularity of the Head Super Shapes was the reason Fischer decided to bring back this ski (or least these dimensions!). JB.

Is the RX Fire available in the USA, I see that its only shown on the International site and not on the USA site? This would be a great alternative to the Supershape, the Fischer would be a little stiffer I would image.

The RX Fire 8 is definitely listed on the US Fischer web site.
Peter Keelty says the RX Fire 8 and the RX8 are the same ski and the addition of "Fire"logo  is the only change for the 07/08 ski year.  True??

Does anyone know where I can purchase the RX Fire 8 in the Portland, OR area?  So far I have not been able to locate it.

Thanks,

Ski Chalet has Fischer.? If they don't have the RX Fire it is early enough that they could be ordered.

I got mine at Putnam's in NH.  Not recommended, they shipped them loose w/ no packaging!!  Bindingss and skis scraped up a bit.  They said they would reimburse $75 but didn't.

That being said.  Everything written about the RX-8 Fires is true.  I noticed the quickness and crud busting abilities (compared to my old straight skis mind you).

Older style skiers: They carved and slid well so you can make the transition to the new style skiing very well with these.  Also, when transitioning to shaped skiis, be patient with the notorious wobble at higher speeds when straightlining.  I found after my 2nd day I adapted, somehow, and they instilled confidence even through crud, much better than my straight skis did.  I can't say exactly what I did so they wobbled less, but it was very noticeable.
